The first form of perfume/scent was incense. Incense was first discovered by the Mesopotamians about 4,000 years ago. Ancient cultures burned many kinds of resins, bums and woods at their religious ceremonies. They often soaked the fragrant woods and resins in water and oil, and rubbed their bodies with the liquid. They also embalmed the dead with these perfumes. Other early civilizations used perfumes for rituals and personal use including the: ancient Arabs, Persians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans.
Perfume/scents was widely used in Islamic countries, Greece and Rome until the fall of the Roman Empire. In the 9th century, Alkindus created a book of perfumes in Arabic that detailed over 100 different methods for perfume making. The spread of Christianity created a decrease in the use of perfumes until international trade routes brought perfume to other countries in the 12th century. In the 1600s, wealthy members of the royal French court applied perfume to their fans and gloves.
Egyptian women applied perfumed ointments and creams to their skin infused with aromatic herbs. These women used perfume to adorn their bodies with scent for toiletries and cosmetic purposes. Wealthy aristocrats used perfume in France to cover their lack of daily bathing rituals with strong scents. A Persian chemist named Avicenna created a distillation process to create rose water. Prior to his discovery, early perfumes were created by mixing oil and petals or crushed herbs to create a scent.

House Raffle Ticket for $100
(CBS) A Maryland couple whose house was on the market about two years with no takers decided to try an unconventional route -- they held a raffle, with their home as top prize.
And it worked -- and then some!
Starting in January, organizers sold 6,289 tickets at $100 a pop in 78 days, with buyers in every state, and even Puerto Rico, Japan and Iraq.
It got Karen Crawford and husband Dennis Kelly what they wanted for their four bedroom, 2,700 square foot farmhouse on four acres near Big Pool Md. -- with $225,000 to spare, which they are donating to the San Mar Children's Home in Boonsboro, Md.
The home was appraised art $390,000 when the house was first listed.
Despite the sales far and wide, the raffle's winner was Dennis Weaver, of nearby Hagerstown, Md. He's a clerk for the Washington County Circuit Court, and says he's not sure he'll even keep the house -- it would lengthen his commute -- he just bought the ticket to help the charity.
Weaver would owe about $150,000 in taxes on the value of his prize, accountants say, which he could cover with a home equity loan or by selling his winning ticket.
Realtor Cynthia Moler, who orchestrated the deal, says people are lining up to buy it.
Crawford told The Early Show co-anchor Harry SmithMonday she and her husband got the raffle idea after reading about an Ohio couple holding an essay contest to sell their farm.
She added that the raffle got a super boost when CNN did a story on it on -- Super Bowl Sunday!
"It's a huge releif to get out so well and benefit the charity," she remarked to Smith.
"That makes me worried!" Weaver joked.

TMI
In this day and age, our entire lives are on the internet and at ready view for everyone in the world.
The following friends postings...
Friend fights on facebook...work it out, or take it off line...you both look terrible
Weight issues...I feel for you but why do you want everyone to know you are a closet eater?
All night binders...please stop thinking this adds to your character
Health issues from runny noses to colonoscapy and the list of diseases! Why do you want anyone to see your colonoscapy films....really WHY?
Husband hate notes...funny but constant is so tacky, starting to feel bad for him
Pics of 10 year old Daughters homework to show her terrible writing ability...not enough to ask for help but it had to have an example....poor thing can you imagine the teenage years...Secrets and door locks to follow.
People talk about things online they would never talk about face to face. If I walked up to a woman in the store and said, you are 50 lbs overweight and you are buying a vat of icecream is that sensible? I would probably be decked. But she will get on the computer and talk all about it.
These machines are not walls....we all see you and we are all real people too.
Maybe back it down a bit people. Humans look bad enough as it is, lets not make it worse!

Friends and Laughter
There is something about getting together with a bunch of women (one token man) and chatting. We laughed and had such a good time for hours. It ended up being a road trip with a full car and all were jovial and content.
My beautiful daughter has shown her bravery yet again. She stood in front of a room full of adults and shared her "giving back" moment thru Scentsy. So proud, my heart is full! Just when I think I can't adore my children anymore...I do
I was exhausted upon arriving home at 11:15 but, I felt accomplished. This morning I am still laughing over some of things we spoke of. Scentsy has done so many things for people, it is a wonderful tool in this negative world and it makes everything smell good...(sigh)
That one little evening will keep my bucket full for at least the week : )

Scottish Fairies
I had to share this fun little story
It was a delightful evening, still, breathless, clear, as we swept slowly across the broad breast of Loch Maree; and the red light of the sinking sun fell on many a sweet wild recess, amid the labyrinth of islands purple with heath, and overhung by the birch and mountain-ash; or slanted along the broken glades of the ancient forest; or lighted up into a blush the pale stony faces of the tall
pyramidal hills. A boat bearing a wedding party was crossing the lake to the white house on the opposite side, and a piper stationed in the bows, was discoursing sweet music that, softened by distance, and caught up by the echoes of the rocks, resembled no strain I had ever heard from the bagpipe before. Even the boatmen rested on their oars, and I had just enough of Gaelic to know that they were remarking how very beautiful it was. ‘I wish’, said my comrade, ‘you understood these men: they have a great many curious stories about the loch, that I am sure you would like. See you that large island? It is Island-Maree. There is, they tell me, an old burying-ground on it, in which the Danes used to bury long ages ago, and whose ancient tombstones no man can read. And yon other island beside it is famous as the place on which the good people meet every year to make submission to their queen. There is, they say, a little loch in the island, and another little island in the loch; and it is under a tree on that inner island that the queen sits and gathers kain for the Evil One. They tell me that, for certain, the fairies have not left this part of the country yet.’ Hugh Miller (1802-1856) http://www.visitdunkeld.com/scottish-trivia-071.htm

Rainbow Suckers
Are you ever amazed at how you allow the negative person in your life the ability to suck the color out of your rainbow...
I am so proud of the work I have done...I mean really beaming. And then I ask my rainbow drainer, look how good this looks, there is even more room in there. And in my true color drainer style, he says "how can that be", "wow this box looks weird that is going to take some getting used too", in a very (great that just makes it all suck). So I said, "You could suck the color out of a rainbow". Negative I know, but I meant it. I beg him to find the positive in things and somehow I am always off guard when the hoover treatment begins. Cant he just say, "You accomplished a bunch today, I am happy it makes you happy". You know like I do for him....
I know it is my rainbow and I like the color dammit, I decide if Rainbow continues to have vibrant colors....

Berlin has Elevator Jails
Story taken from Yahoo news, but I had to share....this one is hilarious!
BERLIN (Reuters) – Two would-be thieves called in their own crime to police in Germany after they could not escape from a broken-down elevator over the weekend, police said in a statement.
"This sounds really dumb," one of the thieves told police in Cologne over the elevator's emergency phone, "But I'm afraid that we wanted to break in and the elevator has gotten stuck."
When police arrived they found the two thieves aged 31 and 37 stuck in the elevator of an office building.
The thieves allegedly broke into the building and were attempting to reach a higher floor when the elevator became stuck, the police said.
They decided to phone for help when one thief injured his hand attempting to pry open the door.
Firemen eventually freed the men and they were arrested.

Scentsy to hit Europe
I can't think of a more exciting moment. My life long dream has been to venture across the pond. With my Scottish, Irish and English heritage, I don't remember when I didn't want to go back and find my family. The desire only increased with the death of my father. You don't really know what it is like to feel alone, until you are. I know god is always with me, so don't jump on that one.
With the new venture Scentsy has taken on, my dream has just become so much closer!

Women Empowered
"It's one of the two ultimate ways of controlling a woman; Just tell her she's fat or she's selfish" unknown
Why would a woman ever give someone else the power to decide who she was. Who we are is not how we look, not who we work for but who we are inside all this flesh. If we could all get past that, how much happier we would be.
I read a great way to Avoid energy zapping, thought I would share.
Here are 8 common energy drains—and how to fix them:
1. Energy drain: Other people's expectations
Are you living someone else's dream for you? You're putting out energy but starving emotionally. The other person gets all the satisfaction.
Energy move: Declare independence
You bought in; you can set yourself free. No confrontation needed, just "I don't have to expect that of myself." Worst-case scenario: Someone who's not you will be disappointed. You will feel wonderful.
2. Energy drain: Loss of self
As kids, we had to play by the rules; our unique energy got caged.
Energy move: Personalize your life
Ask yourself, If it were up to me, what would I...hang on my wall? Wear to work? Do for fun? Find the pockets of freedom where you can be more yourself.
3. Energy drain: Deprivation
Duties and responsibilities fill your days. You gain weight trying to get emotional energy from food.
Energy move: Add pleasure, beauty, fun
Satisfying experiences, large and small, are the real nourishment you crave. Plan a big treat to look forward to—and a little one every day.
4. Energy drain: Envy
We often don't feel envy directly—but we might find someone else's good fortune depressing.
Energy move: Count your blessings
Comparison is a loser's game. Look at what you have, and actively feel grateful. (P.S. That person you envy—you don't know how messy her life really is. Chances are you wouldn't want it if you had it.)
5. Energy drain: Worry
When you worry, you think you're dealing with things, but you're just suffering. Worry never comes up with good ideas. It torments and exhausts us.
Energy move: Get going
Action is the cure for worry. Do one thing that brings you a step closer to coping. If it's the middle of the night, get up and write a to-do list.
6. Energy drain: Unfinished business
Unmade decisions and postponed projects drain you.
Energy move: Do it or dump it
Forget the perfect decision—just trust yourself and make a choice. Put projects in an appointment book. If you can't find any good time, that's a signal you don't want to do it. So don't.
7. Energy drain: Overcommitment
You're always saying "yes"—to your boss, mother, kids, friends; to requests, favors, meetings.
Energy move: Say "yes" to yourself
Tell someone else "no" every once in a while, just to feel your own power. You'll gain a whole new sense of your ability to take care of yourself.
8. Energy drain: Holding on to loss
Fresh loss is an emergency. But old losses you can't let go of are dead weight.
Energy move: Cry all your tears
Indulge in big-time mourning. Take off from work, stay in bed, and do nothing but cry till you're dry—and bored. Then go out and embrace life.
Increase your Energy!
1. Make a list of everything you plan to do today: In Column A, include the activities that drain you; in column B, those that replenish you. Now figure out how to remove one item from A and add one to B.
2. Don't even think about having a bagel or doughnut (refined carbs) for breakfast. Complex carbs, especially uncooked ones (like muesli), and a bit of protein will give you slow, sustained energy.
3. Take an extra step—and 499 more. "Exercise gets your heart pumping more blood to the muscles," says internist Marianne Legato, MD. "It's one of the best antidotes to fatigue."
4. Plug into a great memory of you bursting with excitement—your first crush, a big promotion. Relive it in your mind. "Enthusiasm, radiance, joy—these energetic states come from happy emotions," says stress expert Alice Domar, PhD.
5. Get a blood test for both low thyroid function and anemia—two of the most common, and treatable, causes of fatigue.
6. When you get home from work, stretch for five minutes. "It takes energy to hold our muscles tight—a big waster," Hobbs says.
7. Don't turn on the TV for 24 hours. "Television," Domar says, "can suck the energy right out of you."
8. Assign one of your regular chores to another member of your household. If you live alone, is there one task (laundry, dog walking) you can hire someone to do?
9. Do you spend your mornings hooked up to a coffee mug? Try smaller amounts of caffeine—you may feel more acceleration with less. Or switch to green tea, which has some caffeine and lots of cancer-fighting antioxidants.
10. If you have the opportunity, flirt, even if you're in a wonderful relationship. Innocently catching a man's eye and offering some acknowledgment creates a charge.
11. Want pure invigoration? Jump rope for three minutes. Or just jump in place. "There's nothing on the planet better than getting up and moving," says nutrition and metabolism expert Pamela Peeke, MD.
12. Get a half hour—even better, an hour—more sleep and just see what it feels like.
13. Think about any attachments that are depleting your emotional reserves. Are you dwelling on an ex-lover? Stewing over a grudge at work? Consider letting go.
14. Go ahead and grab an energy bar if you don't have time for a meal. But, Peeke warns, choose one with no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates and two grams of saturated fat (two to six grams of total fat).
15. Write down what your purpose in life is. "You have to be going somewhere to have the energy you need to get there," says cardiologist Mehmet Oz, MD.
16. On your commute home, don't read or listen to the news. Pop your favorite rock-out album into your car stereo or portable CD player and amp it up.
17. Take a deep breath—one that feels like it fills your whole body. And let it out all the way. Take another, and one more.
18. Fill a big, beautiful bowl with equal parts water and vinegar, and add sliced cucumbers. Chill it. Throughout the day, refresh yourself with a cucumber nosh.
19. Slip on some strappy heels, a sexy bra. "Arousal," says sexuality expert Pepper Schwartz, PhD, "is like the energy you feel when you start a race. Your senses are alive, your focus is more intense, you're more aware of your body."
20. To override an energy dip, have a slice of avocado or a small handful of nuts—snacks containing healthy fats offer smooth, long-lasting octane.
21. If you're spread so thin you're just about threadbare, gaze inward: Are you using frenetic activity to avoid feeling pain? Or to mask some kind of insecurity? And are you willing to address those problems so you can restock your vitality?
22. Call up your most fun, zany friend and get a dose of enthusiasm—it's contagious. Even better, make plans to do something together.
23. Go out right now and spend some serious, or not so serious, cash on yourself. There's absolutely no science to it, but shopping has a way of reanimating you when you've run out of steam. Could it be a natural high?

Lazy Sunday with buckets of Grog Coffee and sweet music...
Lazy Sunday with buckets of Grog Coffee, sweet music and smelling My Wish...and the discussion of what is sexual harassment. Wow, the area of discussion is vast.
Anytime you are made to be felt uncomfortable. Regardless if someone agrees with you or not.
A dirty joke (sexual subject)
Pic displayed of unclothed body parts
Pic displayed of sexy person
Kissing another person (any age)...ever been told "get a room", this means you (and oh ya me...guilty!)
Teens grinding in the school hall
Comment of "you have good child bearing hips"...really!!!!!
My rule: try not to make people feel uncomfortable...ever

Organization
Too stay organized...
It takes hours, sometimes days to stay organized. Why would you not stay organized?
I think its laziness...lol Does my family enjoy watching me cleaning and organize, so they decide to help things along...giving me something to do basically, I guess. It amazes me how often I get everything in place and then over a months time, I am running around trying to find things and the drawer is a mess again... It is almost maddening.
Today I will begin a fresh, and be diligent. Now if I can just the sprites around here to cooperate, my plan will work out fine : )

It feels so good, to feel soo good!
You know when you have that feeling...that I got a raise today, my friend got engaged, my daughter got straight A's and today is the first moment of the rest of my amazing life. That excited tickle in your belly, when you just want to jump up and hug somebody or cry with laughter...I am there baby!!!
God might be watching?
I found the greatest quote today!
YOU NEVER KNOW WHO'S EYES GOD IS WATCHING YOU THROUGH
Now that is a statement; The next person that you scowl at, judge for their religion, judge for the person they love or flip off because they honked at you...just might be showing God a live feed of your actions...but oh that's right he is watching all the time.
Be a great person today...it just feels better!

Over and a New
The Holidays are now over and the New Year is off and running!
I don't believe in New Years resolutions, but I have made one. I want to put every picture in a box or drawer in a photo sleeve. Oh yes! Organize my photos!!! I have a dresser designated for our photos and yes it is full...every last drawer...ridiculous! But no more...lol
And I am starting a 2011 bucket list. I believe that sounds much better than some stupid resolution list, that I am going to blow in a month or two. I will be building my list in the next week, wish me luck!
1. Walk the mountain trail from Weber to Ogden Canyon4. Be in awe 6. Walk at least 5 miles of Ocean Beaches8. Be left breathless9. Plant a tree10. Change a life12. Take a homeless person to lunch

3. Attend a church of every local religion
5. Walk every nature trail in the Valley
7. Metal detect everywhere I have wanted too
11. Polar Bear Swim
13. Spend an entire day in silence
14. Give and then give some more
